Four Teaching Tools to
Encourage New Parents

Becoming a new parent is an exciting time, but it’s also a time of uncertainty and learning. New parents often have many questions: Is my baby getting enough breastmilk? Did I put my baby down to sleep properly? Why is my baby crying? How do I help keep my baby healthy? These questions and many others often concern new parents who are already excited, anxious, and sleep deprived as they embark on their new role as parents.

Fortunately, Childbirth Graphics has a wide range of newborns, breastfeeding, and early parenting education materials and resources to provide new parents with the information they need to gain confidence and get parenthood off to the right start.

Read on to discover four of our many great teaching tools to answer new parents’ questions and bring encouragement to the early days of parenting.

Baby Bellies™ Display

When new mothers start breastfeeding their babies, they frequently wonder whether their babies are getting enough breastmilk. Our simple, reassuring Baby Bellies Display uses a marble, pingpong ball, and plastic egg to show the small amount of milk a newborn’s stomach can hold per feeding on the first, third, and tenth days of life. It comes inside a plastic bag with a two-sided card that provides additional information to help parents understand whether their baby is consuming enough breastmilk, such as having about six wet diapers after the first few days. The display is ideal for educators to use in counseling one-on-one with breastfeeding mothers.

Baby wearing SIDS Infant T-Shirt, infant sleep safety educational T-shirt to educate new parents, Childbirth Graphics, 79835 Naptime and bedtime can be a source of concern for new parents because they want their baby to stay safe. Our SIDS Infant T-Shirt is the perfect reminder for parents and all caregivers that babies should always be placed on their backs to sleep. The front of the T-shirt says, “This Side Up—Handle With Care,” while the back says, “This Side Down—Put me on my back to sleep.” Pairing the T-shirt with our Loving Baby Care™: Sleep Safety Tear Pad gives parents the information they need to help them create a complete safe-sleep environment, from using a crib or bassinet in compliance with all safety standards to keeping all soft objects and loose bedding out of a baby’s sleep area.
Crying/Colic Tear Pad, bilingual English/Spanish newborn care educational handout for new parents, Childbirth Graphics, 52533 Babies can’t explain what they’re thinking, so sudden intense crying spells can be disconcerting and stressful for their fretful parents. If a healthcare professional has ruled out other health issues, and a baby is not wet, sick, or hungry, colic may be the cause. Our English/Spanish Crying/Colic Tear Pad offers new parents helpful suggestions for dealing with colic to comfort a crying baby. Tips include swaddling, taking the baby for a ride in the car, avoiding certain foods if breastfeeding, and more. Reassuring parents that colic usually passes by the time a baby is 3 to 4 months old, the tear pad also counsels parents to seek immediate help if they fear they may mishandle the baby.
